The Last Straw
From 1st March 2019 Leura Park Estate will go straw-less!
Help Leura Park Estate make a difference. We are raising awareness and support for the love of animals.
Did you know that we use over 500 million plastic straws a day? Straws are too small to be easily recycled so they become trash - often in the ocean. Mass plastic use is a huge problem that contributes massive amounts to landfill and has a negative impact on ocean eco systems.
While it seems simple, straws create a pressing threat to our oceans because they are made to be disposable, and on average are used for just 10 minutes.
Help us create awareness
Using straws is so ingrained in our culture that the key to this movement is removing the straws altogether.
Our bartenders and waiters have now been re-trained not to add straws to drinks.
Leura Park Estate will no longer automatically give plastic straws. Paper straws will be given upon request.
We would like to educate individuals to refuse plastic straws and spread the “straw free” message.
It’s about small, practical steps any first-timer can take to be a little friendlier to our earth.
Join the pledgee
It’s a simple one step process:
Make a personal commitment to say "no" to plastic straws.
Whenever ordering a drink, politely request “no straw, please.”
Encourage your friends and family to take the pledge, too!
This collective engagement around the gateway issue of plastic straws will meaningfully shift the way individuals and businesses think about plastic pollution - and about our society’s disposable culture on a larger scale.
